VA Education Benefit
Chapter 1607 - REAP
A relatively new VA education benefit has been established for certain Reservists or National Guard members who were activated for duty on or after September 11, 2001. This benefit, Chapter 1607, was signed into law on October 28, 2004. General information about Chapter 1607 is available online at www.gibill.va.gov. If you wish to discuss this benefit with a VA education counselor, please contact the VA at 1-888-GIBILL1.
If you qualify for Chapter 1607 education benefits, please follow these instructions to apply. Students who have previously filed a claim for VA education benefits (e.g. Chapter 1606) should complete VA Form 22-1995, entitled “Request for Change of Program or Place of Training”. Students who have never filed a claim for VA education benefits should complete VA Form 22-1990, entitled “Application for VA Education Benefits”. Both forms are available online at http://www.va.gov/vaforms/.
Please write “Chapter 1607” prominently in the top margin of the form you complete. In addition, you must attach to the form documentation that verifies your qualifying service. Examples of acceptable documentation include your Discharge from Military Service (i.e. DD Form 214) and a copy of your active duty orders.
