Additional Information for Dependents of Veterans REPS
(Restored Entitlement Program for Survivors) REPS benefits
are a restoration of Social Security benefits that were reduced or
terminated by the Omnibus Act (1981). The Department of Veterans Affairs
(DVA) pays REPS benefits to certain surviving spouses or children between
the age of 18 and 22 of a veteran who died while on active duty before
August 13, 1981, or died from disabilities incurred in or aggravated by
active duty before August 13, 1981. For eligibility information, contact the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) at
800-827-1000. The REPS benefit is payable to certain surviving spouses and school children who are survivors of members or former members of the Armed Forces who died while on active duty before August 13, 1981, or died from disabilities incurred in or aggravated by active duty before August 13, 1981. REPS benefits are not payable based on service in the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. EDUCATIONAL GRATUITY FOR CHILDREN OF VETERANS Payment of
Educational Gratuities is for children of honorably discharged veterans
who have been certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA)
as having wartime service-connected disabilities rated as totally and
permanently disabled or children of veterans who die or have died of war
service-connected disabilities or died in service during a period of war
or armed conflict. Children must be between the ages of sixteen (16)
through twenty-three (23), living within this Commonwealth five (5)
years prior to application and must attend a school within this
Commonwealth to be entitled to this Educational Gratuity.
