Report contains background information that is necessary for constructing a management plan for old growth forest in the state. Definitions and characteristics of old growth forests are included followed by the social and ecological values of old growth forests. Tables are included that list species of birds found within old growth forests, as are summaries of ecological attributes and Society of American Foresters Cover Type Codes. Composition, geographic distribution and characteristics are used to analyze seven major old growth forests including tips for restoring or enhancing those characteristics. Threats to old growth forests are noted as are management requirements and minimum dynamic areas needed to maintain the forest. An implementation model is covered.
