Contains information concerning PennFuture's advocacy activities. A lawsuit was filed on October 13, 1999 against the Pennsylvania DEP Secretary, the Secretary of the Interior and the Office of Surface Mining requesting coal mining companies to post adequate financial guarantees to repair problems that arise after mining. In response, Pennsylvania offered a proposal to adopt a bonding program that would provide enough money to reclaim any mined land.
     Also included are the a) effects caused by longwall mining, b) an attempt to stop construction on Bald Eagle Mountain, c) saving a wetland from becoming a Pittsburgh area mall, d) work with Defend our Watershed in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area, e) protecting Broad Run from development, f) defense of DEP's Special Protection Waters Program and g) a water pollution trading program.
