Virginia Martin Gender Issues Essay Contest

Submission Guidelines

 

The Virginia Martin Prize in Gender Issues contest is open to any LHU student currently pursuing a degree at the university. First prize (250 dollars), second prize (150 dollars), and third prize (100 dollars) will be awarded to essays that use gender and women’s issues as a demonstrated and clear category of analysis, topic or thematic concern . Essays dealing with representations of gender issues in literature, arts and the social sciences, social construction of identity, gender equality rights, social justice and peace are all welcome. You may submit both analytical and critical essays, or creative pieces. The submissions must be original work ideally produced for a class. If written outside of coursework, then the contestant should provide a brief summary of the context in which the piece was conceived and written. This explanation must be attached to the work submitted for consideration. Students may submit work directly to gdevi@lhup.edu or they may submit through their course instructor.

The Virginia Martin Gender Issues Essay Contest is made possible by a gift from Associate Professor Emerita Virginia Martin who retired from the LHU English department and is an early pioneer of the Women's Studies program at LHU.
